Editing site URLs and e-mail addresses

URLs or e-mail addresses listed in the External tab are objects with names. You can change an object's name, its actual content, or both. When you change the content of a URL or address object, you can automatically update the URL or address on every site page where it is located.

E-mail address objects can contain multiple addresses, and they add mailto: hyperlinks by default. You can change the default by deselecting Auto Add "Mailto:" To Addresses in general preferences for URL handling.

To create a new URL or e-mail address in the External tab:

1 Drag a URL or address from the Site palette to the External tab. The URL or address is listed as "untitled."

2 Edit the name and content of the URL or address. If you are creating an address list, use commas to separate the multiple addresses you provide.

To edit a URL or e-mail address:

1 Select a URL or address in the External tab.

2 Do one or both of the following:

  • Type a new name in the External tab or the Reference Inspector.
  • Type a new URL or address in the URL text box of the Reference Inspector.

  • To type a long URL or address, it's easier to click Edit in the Reference Inspector, type a new URL or address, and click Change. (The entire address may not be visible in the External tab.)

3 If the Change Reference dialog is displayed, click OK to confirm the new URL or address and update all files at the site that use it. (If you want to exclude a file from updating, deselect it before clicking OK.)
